EMPHASIZE is the acronym for the research project titled “Exploring the Muscle Factors Predictive of Hepatic Function”, funded under the 2023 Exploratory Project Call for All Scientific Domains by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). The project is led by Ana Luísa de Sousa Coelho at the University of Algarve (UAlg).
This project aims to identify key muscle-related biomarkers and to develop computational models that can predict hepatic function outcomes, particularly in the context of bariatric surgery. By integrating biomolecular data with advanced computational approaches, the project seeks to improve patient stratification and personalized treatment strategies.
The Pattern Institute (PI), represented by Ramiro Magno, is a key partner in the project, contributing specialized expertise in computational modeling and data integration. Additional collaboration is provided by the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, EPE (ULSAlgarve), ensuring access to clinical data and patient cohorts necessary for translational validation.
